J'Marcus Alfred is a photographer and digital creator from Meridian, MS. He graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi's School of Communications in 2016, with a focus on Entertainment Industry/Media Production. During his time at Southern Miss he got his start as photographer for teams involved in club sports and live music events. He then transitioned to working for the university as the Digital Media Coordinator, Where he would work on various high profile video projects for the university.


The Korean pop group LOONA who’s pre-debut project in late 2016 would become a large inspiration on his work. “A colorless world is boring. Will you change it with your fingers?” Member Heejin LOONA built a world of Vivid colors as a building block for the world they revealed through their releases. This would be the spark behind his project C-XIX during the Covid-19 lockdown. His curiosity into experimenting with portrait photography with mixing colors and combining images Blossomed into works Like Neptune and Eden, totaling to over 200 photos.   


Alfred would become a member of The Little Yellow Building’s (TLYB) Yellow Collective. Through TLYB he had works published in TLYB’s 7D7V and Body Exhibition books. As well as being featured in the “Introductions” exhibition held at Mississippi School of the Arts in Brookhaven, Mississippi.


“What I enjoy the most about photography is I get to build a world within the frame. I literally bring objects from my surroundings to add some dimension to my work. It's a time where I feel the most childlike, although those days have long passed, I get to live in an imaginary world I’ll have for a short amount of time. Until I have to put away everything and come back to reality.“
